We've known for a while that Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the property's most commercially successful instalment, but we've never been told how many units it's actually sold. However, Ubisoft has just confirmed that the open world title has surpassed 20 million players — an impressive feat, and a figure that suggests sales numbers must be rather high.
For a single-player release, having 20 million players probably puts it up there with some of the generation's heaviest hitters. But of course, it does help that Valhalla has been made available through subscription services like PS Plus — 20 million players certainly doesn't equate to 20 million copies sold.
Still, it just goes to show how much of a win the open world RPG formula has been for Assassin's Creed. Odyssey had already leapfrogged Origins, and Valhalla has sped past both of them. It'll be interesting, then, to see how Assassin's Creed Mirage fares next year — a game that's smaller in scope, harkening back to more traditional Creed titles.

It has its faults and Odyssey is far far better but its been quite the ride with Valhalla these past 2 years. I must have around 300+ hours with it now and counting and i still play it often.
It's a great viking game but not a good Assassins Creed game. I just couldn't get into it after attempting 3x since buying it at launch.
I thought it might be just that I'm board of the series so I reinstalled AC Unity. Jumped right in and replayed it to finish. Loved it. Hopefully we see a return to the original formula.
That's about 3-4x more than I would have expected
Valhalla is really fun. By far my favorite of the three RPG ones. Origins is pretty good too. Odyssey is...not great but I liked it enough to finish it so fair enough.
I kind of viewed the RPG ones with disdain for a while because it seemed like Ubisoft forgot about the original AC style but Valhalla at least put a bit of the DNA of classic AC back in. Plus now we got Mirage coming too along with a Japan RPG one so now it's all good. Everyone wins!
I liked Origins and loved Odyssey, so will definitely get around to dusting this off from the backlog at some stage. Think I’ll need about 2 weeks of absolutely nothing in my diary first though.
At first I could not get into it. But then I played Odyssey, then Origins and then Valhalla. I could not put it down then. The graphics are incredible. It was actually my favorite of the three. I really enjoy the time period and the viking lore. I still have to play the newest DLC. My backlog is so large though.
Nice, tons of fun playing it. Love that Ubi turned this iP around.
I can’t wait for a smaller AC game…they are just too big and too much filler. Still fun and good stories, but too freaking much!
What? The new trilogy is terrible and the games are a sin, how could it be possible to have that many players? Right? ... Right...?
I find it interesting they chose to roll with the player count rather than unit sales. That's the stuff Microsoft does to hide low sales figures. Besides Ubisoft's own subscription service, what other services is this game in or has it been in previously?
FOR RAVENSTHORPE!
I only finished Origins. Odyssey was to bloated and Valhalla was fine didn't finish either but it was ok.
I'm keeping my travel through the Assassin's Creed series, playing Unity right now. I estimate I will reach Valhalla in march or april 2023 (I already played Odyssey on launch). I'm eager to play Valhalla!!
SKAL? What?! It’s SKOL! That’s the Minnesota Vikings way! (Go Vikes!!)
If yer gonna use the Danish/Norwegian/Swedish usage of the word, ya gotta have that funky lil seeing-eye circle thing over the “a,” like this: skål!
Anyway, it’s good that Ubisoft has Assassins Creed Valhalla, because they’d probably be in a world of hurt financially without it. Roller Champions was a dud, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction didn’t set the world on fire (is the TC RS series getting stale?), the Rabbids: Party of Legends game didn’t get much attention (are people tired of Rabbids? Maybe that Rabbids/Mario game will be big!), Trivial Pursuit Live 2 was an under-the-radar release (board games don’t sell bazillions unless they’re called Mario Party), Ubisoft is likely still hurting from disappointing sales of Immortals Fenyx Rising (it was crazy how fast the price on that one dropped), and FarCry’s popularity seems to be a far cry from what it used to be. Watch Dogs 2 sold ok, I think, but probably not as well as Ubisoft predicted—and the price dropped fast on that one, too. With all that said, I really hope the games/ips I mentioned are doing way better financially than I think they are, because I truly want Ubisoft to succeed. They just need some new, fresh ideas.
Worst assassins creed game ever made, just a mediocre Viking rpg and not very good. Very buggy , boring and repetitive. Origins was a million times better. Uninstalled after about 1/3 through …….
It's far more focused than the previous installments (a slightly smaller world with greater density I would say) so it has its appeal. I really enjoyed it quite a lot but after a while (I'm passed the 100 hour mark on my save now) I just had to stop. Was trying to get through Wrath of the Druids but it's just too bloated and repetitive now. Might return to it at some point in the future.
Not sure who even has the time to play even half of the open world AC games on top on all the other non affiliated ones that exist (Ghost of Tsushima, Horizion, Breath of the Wild etc.) but judging by the numbers it’s seems some do.
